Barrett-Jackson 2009

A few years ago I discovered that I actually like vintage cars. I don't own one and probably won't because I am too practical and hate the thought of insuring an extra car, storing it and maintaining it. But if money was no object and I could collect cars like Jay Leno I KNOW that I would want to own a 1957 Bellaire. I love 1950's cars.

I found that I like photographing old cars and especially like cars with flames. I think it would be fun to learn how to paint and pinstripe cars.

My husband loves fast modern cars. When we are on the road he can tell you what make model and year a car is. I can tell you what color a car is and that is about it. I just know if I think a car is cute.

The Barrett-Jackson Auto auction is in Scottsdale this weekend. We had some friends visiting from Kansas and we spent a day there walking, dreaming about cars and drinking beer. Not necessarily in that order.

This event is huge and there are miles of tents and cars. This is an excellent people watching venue. The average person attending the auction appeared to be men in their 60's. The uniform was a golf shirt or Tommy Bahama shirt and a baseball cap. I wasn't there in the evening but I'm sure that due to the smell of money it is cougar city after dark.

More food vendors than the fair but way better choices.

Some of the cars under the tents.

Cool car details.

A little purple passion.

Loving the chrome!

Bad to the bone.

Batmobile in the house.

This is the holding area just before they drive the cars into the arena for sale. I fondly call it the testosterone pit.

I could not get a good photo of this fellow in the center of the photo below. He is wearing a green shirt and was smoking a foot long cigar. He was looking intently at a sort of jeep with a machine gun mounted on it. For some reason his cigar was cracking me up.

More cars on display in one of the buildings.

A view in the main building. You can see how large this venue is.

The speed channel has been on in our house all week. Below is a link to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction website. It also features a live feed.

Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale this week

Once nice thing about living in the 85242 is that we are close to Scottsdale. Ok it's a 45 minute drive but it's still close.
This week is the Barrett-Jackson auto auction at WestWorld. If you have not been before make the trip. It's a good time. You'll get some good exercise walking around and get to see some awesome cars.
Here are some of my photos from the 2005 auction.

100th Blog Milestone

Yes, can you believe it. It's my 100th Cornflake Girl Blog. I was not sure what my 100th blog should be but I thought a prayer would maybe at least bring me some good blogging karma. I found the following bloggers prayer on Zenmommas blog. Love it! Love the image. Thanks for creating it. I also thank the bacon gods of the internet.

A Blogger's Prayer:
O MOTHER OF PERPETUAL BLOGGING, grant that I may ever invoke Thy most powerful image, which is the safeguard of prolific bloggers and the salvation of all poor saps desperately searching for blog fodder.
O Purest Gladys, O Sweetest Gladys, let Thy name henceforth be ever on my keyboard. Delay not, O Blessed Lady, to help me whenever I call on Thee, for, in all my writer's block, in all my needs, I shall never cease to call on Thee, ever repeating Thy sacred name, Gladys, Gladys.
O what humor, what sweetness, what brilliant idea, what emotion fill my soul when I blog Thy sacred name, or even only think of Thee. I thank the Bacon Gods of the Internet for having given Thee, for my good, so sweet, so powerful, so lovely a name. But I will not be content with merely uttering Thy name; let my hope for Thee prompt me ever to blog Thee, MOTHER OF PERPETUAL BLOGGING.

Hell Freezes Over

Yes, hell has officially frozen over. I brought my lunch to work every day for a full week and actually ate it.

My husband T was laid off of his job last week. I need to start pinching pennies and one of my most extravagant expenses is eating out for lunch.

I normally go out to lunch partly because I enjoy it and secondly to get away from my desk for an hour each day. I find that when I bring a lunch I work at my desk and don't take a needed step away from my desk.

I have survived week one of penny pinching. You'll probably hear more than you want to about my spending withdrawal.

HELL HAS FROZEN OVER - PART II

Speaking of consumerism. There was an article on AOl today about Hello Kitty products. I did a search and found some of the most disturbing Hello Kitty images. Who knew?

Who knew...Oh no you didn't!
Nothing says fresh like a Hello Kitty breathable pantyliner.

For those PMS days when your pantyliner fails you. Say Hello Kitty to my little friend....

A sure sign you have too much money....

Hello Kitty crop circles - I come in peace.

Trampy and all.... this will look good when you are in the nursing home and they are turning you over to change your diaper.

Nothing says prayer like a Hello Kitty Goth rosary.

Nothing says going to hell like a Hello Kitty Jesus Tattoo. So wrong.

Exhausting.

I hear pink is the new barf.

Is This Thing On?

I love cameras and gadgets but am not good at working them. When I got my first camera that did video clips I kept making movies instead of taking stills. Half of the time on film you would hear me say something like "Sh*t I'm making a movie". This became a catch phrase between my sister-in-law and myself whenever we get together and take photos or movie clips of the family.

This year I bought a flip-video camera that I am notoriously bad at using. The clip above is a wonderful example of "Sh*t I'm making a movie". I was trying to film a neighbors awesome Christmas display. Nobody ever seems to realize that the cameras also have sound. The problem with the flip-video (or is it me) is that I can never seem to turn it off properly. This video is so bad I had to share it.

Owned

My cat Gary LOVES my husband. He prefers him over me unless I am eating peanut butter. Then I am his FAVORITE person for about a minute.

During the Christmas holiday my husband and half of our guests came down with a bug. Each person was down for a day or so with what we think was the flu.

My cat Gary was guarding his favorite human while he was sick in bed. Now THAT is true love.
