A Day at Chandler Harley-Davidson

Yes, I know. My blog has no real theme. It's sort of schizophrenic as far as topics go, but as you can see there are so many interesting things going on in this world and I love checking it all out.

This weekend I went from watching Pro Beach Volleyball to an event at Chandler Harley-Davidson in Chandler Arizona.

They had quite a few events going on at this dealership. Attendance was good and you can see why. First there was the bike wash featuring girls in bikinis washing motorcycles while wearing high heels.

Next there was a bikini contest.
One young lady's talent was standing on her head. Of course I captured the moment when she toppled over.

Of course we found Waldo. That guy sure gets around. (In red and while stripes)
There was a tattoo contest.

There were free hot dogs and raffles. A good time was had by all.

Professional Beach Volleyball Tour

Saturday I attended the professional beach volleyball tour in Glendale. The AVP tour featured many of the participants from the recent Olympics in Beijing.

It was a pleasure to watch the Tall Thin Beast Phil Dalhausser in action.

The temperature is still in the 90's here in the Phoenix area and I thought this misting truck was a great idea.

It was good to see the kids that were lined up to get their volleyballs autographed. This is such a great sport and it awesome to see how gracious and accommodating the athletes were with the public.

Queen of the Universe Shrine

I was in Orlando Florida this weekend and my husband and I drove past a sign marker with the words Mary Queen on it. It was one of those tourist markers that show you where to turn. I commented that that should read Queen Mary. Why would they have a museum or attraction to Queen Mary in Orlando?

Out of curiosity we followed the signs and it turned out to be a National Shrine to Mary, Queen of the Universe. Of course I had to go in. It turned out to be a beautiful beautiful Catholic Church shrine to Mary the Mother of God.

Photo of a mosaic above one of the doors of the church.

Door from a distance.
The main church was very beautiful. My photos don't do it justice. I should have taken more but I was in awe of the silence.

Looking towards the altar.

The church was lovely with lots of clear glass accents. The stained glass windows were very beautiful.

The shrine itself is a graceful white marble statue of Mary.

There was a mass going on in a side chapel so I stayed on the other side of the church, said a few prayers and lit candles for loved ones.

If you are in the Orlando area and in the vicinity of this shrine I would say it is worth a stop. There is not cost but donations are always accepted. They also have one of the biggest Catholic gift shops I have ever seen.

Here is a link with more photos and information regarding Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine.

LowRider Week

I know this blog is looking like a Lowrider show website but it's not. It's just that I had a few opportunities in the past two weeks to visit a few local shows and I thought I would share some photos. Now I guess it is Lowrider week on Cornflake Girl.

This weekend the Mesa Arts Center held some nice exhibits with themes of Lowriders and Tatoos and Lowrider art. I visited the show on Friday night. Wow, I was so impressed with the Mesa Arts Center. This was my first time there and I plan to go back soon.

The show started at 7pm so it was dark while we were strolling around drooling at cars. Below are some photos from the show for your viewing pleasure. You will notice that some of the same cars are seen from the Phoenix Lowrider Super Show.

Hot Stuff.

Rainbows R Us

Due to the monsoon rains this year I have have been lucky in the past two weeks to spot some rainbows. Of course I am usually in my car and trying to capture a photo one the move and through a car window. I thought I would share these. Yes, the photo at the top has been manipulated. I could not help myself.

Phoenix Lowriders

Since moving to the Phoenix area I have been able to attend some very cool car events. Of course the Barrett- Jackson auction in Scottsdale is pretty darn awesome. I have never been a big car buff but after attending a few of these events I have discovered that I love to photograph old cars. I especially like lots of chrome.

Below are some more photos that I took at the 2008 Phoenix Lowrider Super Show. You can see the passion that the participants have in their cars. You can also see all of the time and money they have put into these cars to totally bling them out. I think Lowrider culture is so interesting and fun. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

At the end of the day it's time to just relax with your homeys.
